Like leaves in October

protective layers find descent

revealing past scarred wounds,

stems from prior fruit

shaky fingers trail over

in 'mind's eye', wondering

am I courageous enough

to willingly re-enter arena

where piercing happened before

when leaving myself vulnerable

bearing innocent open heart

and soul of dreamer,

often ignored realist demands

recanting stories of hurt,

humiliating failure, rejection, demise,

my seemingly utter incompetence

within female intimate relations,

tales deaf to ears

under love's falling waters.
